Tasteful Tuesday 4-23-13

Monday was another GREAT night of sleep. I actually woke up a few minutes early again, but still very well rested. I woke up as happy as can be and ready to start a clean and productive day! Many people know that I am a big time fan of AdvoCare, and that I’m even an Advisor, so many of their products make the top of of my list. Monday I started phase 1 of the 24 Day Challenge Bundle (a gentle cleanse) and my tummy is loving it!  The breakfast menu was MOSTLY the same as usual, but you might notice a few changes this week. I have started cooking my eggs with whole eggs, rather than just egg whites. So I scrambled 2 whole eggs, 2 egg whites, chopped tomato, bell pepper, onion and spinach, seasoned with my Mrs. Dash salt-free season and crushed red pepper. SO. GOOD! Of course I I had my oatmeal, but I decreased the serving size. One-half cup of old fashioned cooking oats with a few mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries), one tablespoon of all natural peanut butter and one packet of stevia. This breakfast was VERY filling and satisfying. Everything was ready to eat right on time, 6:30 am. Great way to start the day.

My mid-morning snack was a little later than I wanted. I like to have it around 9:30, but a few minutes is okay. So at 1o am I had 2 hard boiled egg whites and 1 fuji apple (chopped and nuked) sprinkled with cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of all natural peanut butter. DELICIOUS!

Lunch time: 12:45 pm. On the menu: BIG salad full of goodies and a side (about 1/3 cup cooked) of yellow squash and zuccini. Lots of spinach, almost 2 cups. Mixed in the salad was broccoli, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, homemade salsa, about 1/4 cup of brown rice, 3 ounces of chicken breast and a half of an avocado. I ate ALMOST the entire salad! My sweet tooth kicked in, even though I was full, so I topped it off with a serving of sugar free jello.

At 4 pm, I was ready for that afternoon snack. I planned to have some nuts and fruit, but really wanted a shake. So I had an AdvoCare meal replacement shake (chocolate) with 5 frozen strawberries dropped in. Knowing I was going on a 3+ mile run around 5:45, I liked the idea of the shake as my fuel.

After the run I chugged my protein shake! This one is one of my favorite ways to have protein: mix flavors. It was 1/2 scoop of banana and 1/2 scoop of chocolate, like a chocolate covered banana in my shaker cup! This protein powder is an isolate whey and is called Iso-100 by Dymatize. One of the best tasting protein powders I’ve tried.

Within 45 minutes or so I was sitting down to my final meal of the day. Although I’m not even a little bit of a fan of seafood, I had tilapia. It was left over, baked from the night before. Sides of choice to accompany my lean protein: 1/4 cup of sweet potato and about 10 asparagus spears.

My nutrition on this Tasteful Tuesday was right on. Of course there is always room for improvement, but I am more than satisfied with the choices I made! Hope you enjoyed a nutritionally beneficial day yesterday as well! See y’all next week!
